It only takes a brief stroll in Ponsonby on a Saturday morning to show you the enormous cafe culture that is on the rise for this country. Rest assured, your walk will most certainly end with you sitting in a cafe having ordered your morning usual, after all there is no escaping the perils of that freshly brewed coffee that hits your sweet spot. But surely it’s more than that? I have always wondered what’s keeping our whānui hooked to our local cafe bars and why are we so willing to burn our pockets for a breakfast meal that can be easily made in the comfort of our home. Perhaps, there is a bigger catch?
